The considered wardrobe / 9 guides

The wardrobe edit.

Editing a wardrobe is a way to make your clothes easier to use. It does not have to mean owning fewer things, choosing one color or discarding pieces on a deadline. Begin by asking which parts of your week your current clothes can comfortably cover.

A wardrobe audit finds the reason an item stays unworn. A capsule makes a working selection for a particular part of your life. Decluttering decides what leaves. Treating these as separate decisions lets you try a smaller edit without making an irreversible choice about everything else.

A useful starting point.

  1. Name the scope: a season, your ordinary working week, or the clothes that fit comfortably right now.
  2. Check actual outfit combinations before judging individual garments in isolation.
  3. Account for laundry, weather and specialist clothing before deciding a number is too large or too small.

There is room for color, keepsakes and clothes used only occasionally. The useful measure is whether your selection supports your life. Keep decisions reversible where you are unsure, and revisit the edit after wearing it.
